Li-Fi Internet Access point

Light Fidelity or Li-Fi Internet Access Point (IAP) is a bidirectional, high-speed and fully networked OWC technology, that works in a similar manner as Wi-Fi.

Li-Fi is a new smart lighting technology that employs VL and IR and has been developed as a response to the challenge of high speed, secure, and high bandwidth communication.

Li-Fi relieves the load of existing RF and microwave wireless networks by powering visible photons for light generation and optical communication alike.

Li-Fi is a reliable complimentary technology to RF communication which together can create a robust wireless communication solution.

Some advantages of Li-Fi, when compared to current wireless technologies, are:

  • network security,
  • High speed and capacity
  • worldwide availability,
  • free and unlicensed spectrum,
  • low power consumption,
  • potentially eliminates power cabling with Power over Internet (PoE),
  • and no electromagnetic interference (EMI).

LED lightings have been adopted as a common Li-Fi transmitter because they provide low power consumption, low cost of ownership, high return on investment, high luminance efficiency, ease in color rendering, and long lifetime.

Our Li-Fi IAP solution, consists of:

Li-Fi Controller

which is integrated into lighting fixtures (LED lighting source) to modulate LED lights for downlink and receive the modulated IR lighting signals from Li-Fi Transceivers unit as uplink. This controller can use different type of connectors such as Ethernet/Fiber Optic/etc. to connect to the network and back haul.

Li-Fi USB Transceiver

which is a Li-Fi USB adapter, equipped with Photo Diodes (PD) as receiver and IR LED as transmitter for upload, connected to the USB port of a laptop or computer with Microsoft or iOS operating system

General specification

  • Coverage area up to 30 sqm depends the lighting size
  • Low latency of less than 0.5 ms.
  • Up to 13 simultaneous users per IAP
  • Capable of dimming for dark room environment
  • Coexistence and hand off with Wi-Fi
  • Co-Channeling capability in IAP overlap area
